reading

This gent alternated between dozing and reading. Hence the few parts (such as the ears) that seem to be juuuuust a bit off. His head was bobbing.

I must say at the beginning, I had a difficult time sketching on the train. The quick jerky movements, the self-consciousness at being caught sketching, the people moving... now, I love it. I do it every single morning. The lack of perfect no longer bothers me. The lines come smoother with less fighting against the movement of the train. Most of the time I let the train move the pen for me, and even stop when the train stops. My lesson in life continues.... :-)

Hair

This guy was standing in the doorway staring off into space. MAN did he have a head full of hair. That's what made me want to draw him. To see if I could catch it. :-)

At the coffee shop...again...

Out for a walk with my sketchbook, I stopped in to the coffee shop. Lots of comings and goings, so I had lots of possibilities. And settled on this man. Since he held the most still.  :-)

Yesterday and Today....

This would be my youngest older brother. I caught him driving, hence the profile. He told me to make him better looking than he was. In my eyes.... he's beautiful.

This would be my second oldest bother. For today's. From a photo. He's beautiful, too. I love my family....

hot mess....

Okay, so this lady looks like she had a hard life. In reality, she was much prettier. I'll blame it on her, though, as is the normal human reaction....since she kept bobbing and weaving and moving. Having said that, I think the face that she BECAME in the lines is pretty cool. :-)

unfinished

I'd started sketching the guy above, but a minute in he got up and left... Bottom guy was a second choice. It was still fun. But I didn't get all the way done. I kinda liked this raw, pencil still on the page, so I thought I'd show it to you this way.... :-D

At the End...

Today I had a meeting at work earlier than usual. Not bad, but when I got on the train I'm pretty sure half of the rest of the population of Chicago was in the car with me. And so I was relegated to the back of the car, in my tiny little space...I sketched what I saw. The back of some gent's head. :-)

More phones....

Everyone's looking at the phone nowadays, EVERYONE! Which gives me plenty of fodder for sketching...Mwah ha ha ha......:-D

Portrait

In WAN, an art group I belong to, one of the artists posed a challenge, paired us up, and  had us create portraits. My partner, Katro Storm. He's on grey pastel paper, ink pen. Do I like? Yes. Do I want to add more? possibly, possibly... we'll see what my brain says after sleeping on it. :)

On the laptop

This guy was quite a bit bigger than the ones that I do on the train. I took my large sketchbook along. And he was studying something hard. I notice something's askew with the hat size, but eh.... :-D

Blocked....

I thought I was doing rather well, until about halfway there. I was going to expand it and add on a body, but some chick decided she needed to sit down. The NERVE. ;-P  Anyhoo, As you can see, I seem to have developed a new direction the past several sketches. using more blocky pen movements to indicate instead of exactly replicate. I'm kinda digging it right now. At least it works on the smaller sketches. Would it work on the larger ones? Good question. I have a feeling that it would be a no, unless I bought a really thick long pen. Swiping once for a feeling is good. Second and third swipes? More Planned? Hmmm....

Pops

Today I was having a conversation with Jason about dads. This is my dad. Circa 19something. I'm not sure, all I know is that the collar on that jacket was REAAAALLY wide. He's been gone now for 12 years. I'm guessing 1970's. He had a mischievous smile, when he wasn't getting frustrated by four rambunctious kids.... ;-)

I'll be durned.

Whoops. I guess I only missed ONE day. I forgot about this tense looking guy on the train Friday Morning...
And then this morning, there was a gent with a really REALLY flat face. Odd to sketch. I kept wanting to make him fuller in his cheekies... :-D

Two Days...

Wednesday's sketch. I'd thought he was deep in conversation with someone over his phone, texting up a storm... turns out he was just playing a game.... :-D~ Sketches From The Train.
And Thursday... another reader. She was enraptured with the written word... :-D ~Sketches From the Train

Pencil

Tonight on the train home, I found this guy reading his book. Unfortunately all I got was pencil, but here it is...in it's unfinished glory.... :)

There and Back

Today on the way to AND from work I decided to sketch a couple of people. These two women were both engrossed in something... a Kindle, and the bottom lady was playing Sudoku. I might have only done one, but frankly the book that I'm reading isn't keeping my attention. Which Is good for me, sucky for the book... :-D

Standing and staring

Yup, got stuck standing in the corner again. But I found a victim to sketch. I almost knocked the lady in front of me, it was so close in there... Such is the fun! :-)

Little Kota...

One of my friends, Kris, asked me if I could sketch her little Kota.... Well, I tried... I hope it makes her a little happy... everyone needs a smile... :-)

Happy World Drawing Day, 2012!

Aaaannnnndddd... no victims. I didn't take the sketchbook on the train with me today because I thought I'd be out and about at a festival with my camera. So... you get me. Yes, this is my serious/concentration face. :-P

Rather Rude....

Today was a good day. I caught this man sitting there scrolling through his playlist...not moving... I thought "AHA! New victim." and started sketching happily away. And then....it happened. A couple with a baby strapped to dad. Got on and stood right. In. Front. Of. Him. I'm afraid I was rather rude, leaning back and forth, looking around them, moving when they moved. Hey... this one was turning out good, and I was almost at the end... I wasn't about to stop... ;-)
